Condoleezza Rice Raising Concerns about Iran

Is the U.S. being drawn into another conflict?

With the recent developments concerning Iran should we be concerned about a pre-emptive war with Iran. Operating under the assumption that Iran has midrange missile capability, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice proposes a missile defense initiative with possible sites in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Ms. Riceís proposal met with strong criticism from the Soviet Union. Gen. Nikolai Solovtsov, head of Russia's missile program, said that they may just sight its missiles on Poland and the Czech Republic if they accept the U.S. proposal to base missiles in Poland and a radar in the Czech Republic. Of the bases that are proposed only one, Polandís site, would have counterstrike missiles. There would be only ten interceptor missiles based there to stop a potential Iranian escalation. The other site in the Czech Republic would house radar systems.

Could this posturing be preliminary planning for a pre-emptive action against Iran who continues to forge ahead with a request to plead its case for a nuclear program to the United Nations in New York? It is a possibility if you read between the lines as Ms. Rice commented, "I think everyone understands that with a growing Iranian missile threat, which is quite pronounced, that there need to be ways to deal with that problem". If diplomacy were to deteriorate this would certainly mean longer deployments for our troops. That is why it is so important to remember our soldiers who continue to protect our freedom without wavering. It is imperative that the U.S. steps up to provide for those families who have sacrificed so unselfishly. will continue to support our troops and their families who are faced with potentially longer deployments with our family portal and video conferencing system.
